Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, originated from The Vedas (Vedic Scriptures) dating back over 6000 years. Jyotish is considered one of the most important limbs of the Vedas, the world's most ancient scriptures and the most vast, and complete system of knowledge known to man. Jyotish translates as the "Science of Light", it is the remover of the darkness of ignorance, it is the eye of divine knowledge which is pure, supreme and exhalted.

The ancient sages or Seers, while in a state of superconsciousness recognized the energetic rays of the planets as reflectors or transmitters of light energy. These solar and planetary radio-like waves, sent out at various angles, bear influence on everything animate and inanimate, affecting humans on both biological and psychological levels. this wisdom was later codified into rules by the sages who critically observed and experimented to formulate the laws by which Jyotish is practiced. Astrology is, at its root, guided by the Vedic quest for Paravidya (supreme knowledge) and Aparavidya (knowledge of relative truths).

The emphasis that the Vedas place on karma is another fundamental supposition for understanding Astrology . The understanding of the law of cause and effect, or karma, is expressed in scientific law as follows; "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction," and various religious and spiritual texts as "as you sow, so shall you reap." But nowhere is the law of karma more fundamental as a philosophy of life than in the Vedas.

Accepting the lesson of one's accountability for one's life, accepting adversity with grace and equanimity, performing actions independent of expectation of reward or punishment, and cultivating an appreciation of the justice and magnificence of a "grand plan", are the foundations of the workings of karma, the ultimate, inescapable law of justice.

It is a popular misconception that Astrology would suggest that the planets "cause" events to happen. the planets indicate, but do not cause events to happen. Rather, they indicate the challenges one has to face during life's pilgrimage due to causes generated by the individuals past actions.

The planets given importance to in the Indian Astrology are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and two nodes in the north and south directions known as Rahu and Ketu. These planets indicate the future events which could take place and ask you to be cautious. They are tool for betterment of our lives, a guide to what we should do or shouldn’t. They not only tell you about your future but also give a glimpse of your past ‘karmas’ because of which the chain of events occurs in your life. All the nine planets ( including the Rahu and Ketu) collectively called as ‘navgrahas’ which literally means nine planets have deities assigned to them. Appeasement of these deities helps you overcome the difficulties faced because of bad placement of these planets in your chart.
A chart is drawn based on your time of birth, date of birth , and place of birth. After calculating with the help of latitude and longitude of your birth place the exact placement of the planets and signs is derived. This chart or horoscope as is known helps one understand the course your life is likely to take. Where you should be cautious and which things will benefit you.

There are different ways of overcoming the problems shown in the chart. Mantra, Tantra, and Yantra. 
‘Mantra’ which means recitation of the sacred words. ‘Tantra’ which literally means technique, like performing pujas or worshipping the deity and giving it offerings of flowers etc. Yantra is a special drawing according to vedic texts assigned to different deities engraved on metal sheets.

These various methods according to our capability help us ride through the bad or unfavorable period and take the most benefit possible of the good or favorable period.
