 This is an ancient Science of Building
Houses according to the Vedic Guidelines. The ancient Indian
Philosophy suggests there should be harmony between nature and man. This
is evident in a lot of customs and traditions in India. The eight
directions are given different deities and in the whole science of Vastu
the five basic elements are incorporated. It is very essential that these
five basic elements; namely Air, Water, Earth, Ether, and Fire are
in balance in your house too.
The deities assigned to
the Eight directions are:
EAST: LORD INDRA, he
is the king of Gods. Also, the Sun is worshipped facing the east. As we
know even scientifically it is important for sunlight to enter our house.
It is known to have germicidal properties. It also removes all the ills
from the house.
SOUTHEAST: LORD AGNI. This direction
is also known as Agneya after its ruling deity, Agni, which means
fire.
SOUTH: LORD YAMA. He is the Death God. When a
person dies according to the karma, good or bad, that this person has done
in his lifetime Lord Yama decides where he should be sent. Whether to the
hell or heaven. He is assisted by Chitragupta, who is supposed to keep all
the records of a person’s karma.
SOUTHWEST: LORD
NAIRUTYA. This direction is ruled by the Lord
Nairutya.
WEST: LORD VARUNA. Lord Varun is the
rain god. He rules over water. As directed by Lord Indra he decides where
it should rain and how much.
NORTHWEST: LORD VAYU. Vayu
means wind or air. He is the father of Lord Hanuman. He decides which way
the wind is blowing. If you notice across him sits Lord Agni, who is also
his son.
NORTH: LORD KUBERA. He is the treasurer of
the Gods. He is the one who rules over all the wealth of Gods. If he is
happy with you, you will never be short of
money.
NORTHEAST: ISHWAR. This is the most auspicious
of all directions ruled by the Ishwar or lord himself, where all the
trinities combine.
As you must have noted the different
directions with their elements create a balance in our house. Ancient
Indian Vastu Shastra is one of the most ecofriendly sciences of building
houses. Also, depending on which directions your house faces it will bring
you the result of the lord of that direction accordingly.
